Asian Small Dishes “Tapas” with Tim – Thursday, September 3rd
Our late summer tapas evening will feature small dishes from East and Southeast Asia, based on Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian and Vietnamese cuisines. As such, a number of the dishes include meat.
Join us for the “fixed menu” assortment of delightful small international treats prepared for you by Tim and friends. You bring your wine of choice.
Tim will introduce and discuss the dishes as they are served.
The specialties this evening include: “Ants Crawling up Trees,” a humorously named Chinese stuffed lettuce appetizer containing chopped pork and mung bean threads; Gado-Gado, an Indonesian “salad” of blanched vegetables and tofu topped with a spicy peanut sauce; grilled Vietnamese-style barbecued chicken with Nuoc Cham dipping sauce, accompanied by fresh daikon and carrot pickles; Cold-dressed Szechuan sesame noodles with shredded snow peas; Wasabi-Miso crusted chicken; Fried rice with Char-Siew (Cantonese pork BBQ), eggs and peas.
Tim’s preference on wines to go with this variety of dishes would be well-chilled whites like Albariño or Sauvignon Blanc, or a dry rosé. For a red, a Pinot Noir or Chianti would do.
Or -- for a great wine pairing at a modest price, see Dave Wells at the Healthy Gourmet (1087 Baxter St, telephone 706 353-3107). Dave and Tim frequently teach cooking and wine classes at the Healthy Gourmet, and Dave selects wines to go with Tim’s style of cooking.
