Italian “Tapas” with Tim -- Thursday June 4th
All right! We know that “tapas,” authentically, are Spanish rather than Italian. But prix-fixe tapas night at Donderos’ on June 4th will feature dishes from Italy.
Only some of them qualify as “antipasti,” the rough counterpart of tapas. The others are small servings of polenta or main course dishes plus dessert cheeses with fruit.
Join us for an assortment of delightful small international treats prepared for you by Tim and friends. You bring your wine of choice.
Tim will introduce and discuss the dishes as they are served.
The specialties this evening include: Bruschetta with chopped artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomato, accompanied by Italian olives; Prosciutto e Melone (Prosciutto ham with melon); Insalata Caprese (fresh mozzarella with tomatoes and basil) drizzled with house-made balsamic reduction; Polenta e Funghi (Ground corn porridge with truffle oil and parmesan, topped with sautéed assorted mushrooms); Pollo Tonnato (cold, roasted chicken topped with tuna “mayonnaise”); Formaggi e Frutti (Italian cheeses, with fruit).
In Tim’s opinion, certain wines go well with this variety of dishes, particularly Italian whites, such as an Orvieto or Gavi, as well as the old standby Sauvignon Blanc. Medium-bodied reds will also go, such as Chianti, Barbera or Nero d’Avola from Italy, or a Pinot Noir.
Or -- for a great wine pairing at a modest price, see Dave Wells at the Healthy Gourmet (1087 Baxter St, telephone 706 353-3107). Dave and Tim frequently teach cooking and wine classes at the Healthy Gourmet, and Dave selects wines to go with Tim’s style of cooking.
