Thursday August 7th: A Tour of the Mediterranean
After a break in July, Donderos’ prix-fixe tapas night returns full force with an array of summertime small dishes from the Mediterranean.
Join us for an assortment of six specialties for the season from five Mediterranean countries, and bring the wine of your choice. Tim will introduce and discuss the dishes as they are served.
The specialties and the countries this evening include: Italy – Sicilian Caponata (sweet-sour eggplant appetizer); Spain -- Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp sautéed with garlic and white wine); France – Salade de Concombres à la Crème Fraiche (cucumber salad with crème fraiche and dill), and Provençal Ratatouille (summer vegetable medley); Croatia – Ćevapčići (grilled ground beef “kebab” meatballs) with Ajvar (roasted red pepper condiment); Greece – Watermelon Salad with Feta Cheese.
Tim’s choices for wines to accompany these dishes include cold whites, such as Sauvignon Blanc or Albariño, and dry rosés, particularly French or Spanish, If you prefer reds, try one with some acidity, such as Sicilian Nero d’Avola or a Pinot Noir.
Alternatively, for a great wine pairing at a modest price, see Dave Wells at the Healthy Gourmet (1087 Baxter St, telephone 706 353-3107). Dave and Tim frequently teach cooking and wine classes at the Healthy Gourmet, and Dave selects wines to go with Tim’s style of cooking.
